I actually don't know because I use paper towels

If ingested, it will not only cause an impaction, but the sharp edges will tear up the insides of your leo. It also gets lodged in there, so trying to remove it will cause even more damage.
You might not think that your leopard gecko will swallow any of the substrate particles, but you'll be surprised.
