More Egg bound Leos this year then normal......

footlonglizard May 29, 2003 07:23 PM

I just got back from the vet a little while ago to get some oxcytocin put into my Leo. As other people on here noticed that there are more then usual amount of leos this year having problems with egg binding. I was talking to my vet today and he said he usually never gets leos in for this problem, but has seen a lot as well this year. Anyone else notice this happening? I should have the eggs out within 24 hrs, hopefully i dont have to go back for another shot.

none of my gex have become eggbound. However I am not having good luck the past week or two with my eggs- infertile eggs, and now even infertile eggs after fertile in a 2nd year breeder!

I don't get it...

yeah the gex that i have a problem with is 5 years old, always laid 8-10 fertile eggs every time and now 1 clutch and then bound. It really caught me by surprise. If i had to pick which leo was going to give me problems, it wasnt going to be that one.

I actually just had my 3rd clutch laid from one female. I am really happy because these ones look really good, unlike the first 2 clutches that were infertile. I hope your female lays those eggs for you. Good Luck!!

Most of the vets I have talked to have said the same thing and have seen binding across several species. I hope my post earlier assisted with your leo and Ihope she recovers well.

Don't birds get soft shelled eggs when they are exposed to DDT? Could there be some contaminant in the food that could cause such a thing?

Really hard to say. Could be a protein issue. It could be the simple fact that more people are breeding or just keeping a more watchful eye on their Leos and taking the necessary steps to correct the problems.

are being used? i was using mineral now i am using herptivite and rep cal calcium.... so far no egg binding however i did notice (and i do not know of this had anything to do) that females seem to be more depleted of weigh and nutrients at the end of their laying period. maybe the mineral is not giving them everything they need???...... just throwing something out here
