bonnielorraine1 Oct 29, 2003 09:13 PM

I placed this female in with a male a few weeks ago but Im not quite sure if they bred since the male didnt show much interest when I was watching. Anyway, shes gotten rather large and bright since then but Im not sure ifs shes gravid since I dont know if they bred. Can anyone tell me what they think? Thanks

Hey Ben how ya doin? What does the female do when you show her to a male? If she's gravid, she would immediately get dark bars (almost black) and open her mouth. Gravid females in their calm state will either be similar to the picture you have or they will keep their dark bars (or go back and fourth). If you saw a breeding take place, I would say 95 percent of the time she would be gravid but not nessesarily. Have you been weighing her? That's by far the best and easiest way to monitor everything in a female. Here's a pic of a gravid female:

I have a female right now that has not been bred, and she looks like that picture. Usually a gravid female shows darker coloration. As stated in the previous post, introduce her into the males cage again. If she gapes then shes probably gravid.
