Crested instant love

cvonrosen Oct 29, 2003 09:18 PM

when i saw a pic of the crested gecko in the december issue of reptiles i instantly fell in love i have had experience in leos and snakes but cresteds look like my next addition. I have a few extra tens and on twenty long tank but could a 1.1 pair of adult cresteds live in a ten or should i think about getting a medium rubbermaid. do they need to be cooled for breeding? How much should i expect to pay for a pair of mature adults? the food would be no prob to get. Should i use a spotlite? red? black? undertank? or room temp? i was wondering if theres any breeders in utah? i think thats all my questions? i hope
Thanx and sorry for the long post.

Here are the answers to your questions . . .

Not tall enough - yes - no - 200-600 - no, no,no,no - as long as room temp is between 70 and 80 - I don't know .

. . . it's cool that you are interested in Cresties. I would suggest that you buy the Rhac book from "giantgeckos.com" - it's a little expensive - but it answers all your questions, besides that, it is truly a coffee table book - lots of great pix. You think you're hot for them now - just wait until you see some of those pix.

Cresties are arboreal. If you want to display them - try a 20 high - or if you want to rack'em - do the large Rubbermade tubs. Room temps in the mid 70's are just perfect - you really don't need any other heat.

I feed my cresteds the Crested Gecko Diet - but I also feed them mealworms as well - although most people do crickets (I've sworn off crickets for awhile).

Adults are pretty expensive - but on the KS classfieds, there are some really terrific deals on very pretty juvi's. Just purchase from a reputable person.

Good luck bud.
