Hi All,

I am going to be sending some torts( Hermann's and Greeks) from Virginia to Arizona.
I plan to use Airborne Express.

How should I pack them?
Should I use a heat pack?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Steve,
I hope all is well!
As far as packing goes it is really quite simple.
Purchase or make a styrofoam lined box and fill it with shredded newspaper. Using the appropriate sized containers(with a few small airholes), loosely pack them with shredded newspaper and add the tortoise.
The containers should then be placed in the styro box and loosely covered with shredded newspaper.
A heat pack is then taped to the center of the lid. This will prevent the animals from coming into direct contact with the heat pack and will also help to distribute the heat evenly.
Once you have the box securely taped up you can then use a pencil to make a few small holes in the box(don't go overboard).
If you are concerned that the heat pack will make the package too hot when it reaches its destination you can easily prevent this by using the correct heat pack. They come in 6 hour on up through 40 hours.
The above method has worked quite well for me but I am sure there are other methods that would work as well.
Good Luck,
