Is this a slider or what?

clintsky Oct 30, 2003 12:36 AM

Location: a clear and clean creek in Houston, Texas. Size: 8.25 inches. I have caught many sliders from the size of a quarter to huge two handers. None have looked like this guy... I will release him tomorrow, so if you need another look post it here. As you can see I am a snake man not a turtle person.

Sliders can get grayish (especially males) when they are OLD TIMERS. This looks like an old timer to me.

I'm a rehabber in the Houston area and have gotten in a couple of these gray guys. I've been told they are Melanistic RES's and usually just the males can be that way.
