A few questions before I get my corns

mytmouse Oct 30, 2003 08:17 AM

Hi all,
I just have a few questions before I buy my new corn(s).
1.What types of bedding are the best for corns and which should I avoid?

2.Will getting 2 corns cause any conflict between them? Or am I better off housing them seperately?(I want to get differnt morphs)

3. And there are some baby corns at my local pet store that will only eat anoles, no pinkies. Is this normal? And should I consider buying one?

Thanks a lot,
James

1. Bedding ... I use Aspen shavings ... I believe many others do as well. People also like paper towels or newspaper, especially for baby snakes. If you use aspen, or any other loose substrate, I would recommend having a separate feeding container since you don't want Snakey ingesting the aspen.

2. Most people will tell you to house them separately.

3. I (and I'm sure many others) would NOT buy from a pet store. It doesn't surprise me that they aren't eating mice. They have probably been through some tough times and are very stressed. Corns are easy snakes and on the whole should not be eating anoles for too long after hatching. Most go straight to mice. There are exceptions, but, if avoidable, why bother dealing with that problem.

Corns are popular (rightfully so), and you should be able to find at least a few private breeders in your area, wherever you are.

Best of luck.

Good advice. Find out if there are any reptile shows near you.
Start by clicking on EVENTS at the top of the page. If not, a reputable breeder of corns is easy to find. The reptile shows are my favorites, though (at least the one here in Columbus, Ohio), as the selection, price and quality is FAR better than any pet store I have ever been in. And, of course, if there is one near you, you don't have to pay for shipping.
Good luck...... Duffy
