BTS Question

bast Oct 30, 2003 10:00 AM

I have a trio of BTS. See photo below. They are now indoors again for the cold New England winter. Two of the trio get along fine when the third is sepparated. Does that lind any info about the sexes? I weighed them and even measured head width using calipers...they were all similar. I know there is atleast one of each sex because this group has bred.

Any help?

Thank you,

Brian

Hi, there, Brian:
Getting along with another skink is not conclusive evidence of sex. And neither is NOT getting along with another skink. I've had extremely intolerant females that would bite the most calm "easy-going" male. So you cannot tell based on that. It can only be used in conjunction with other factors to come up with a possible sex determination. Your surest bets: observed copulation or eversion of hemipenes when defecating.
You mentioned they bred last year -- when you had them? If not, try asking the person who did breed them.
Good luck.
