Swollen toe- BTS

toby1331 Oct 30, 2003 11:17 AM

My blue tounge skinks front index toe is swollen and was bleeding. AHis toe starts of fine then has a black line and then is swollen. I couldn't find anything in his cage that he could have cut it on. I have been cleaning it with warm water and that seems to help. Does anyone know what could have happened or have any advice to clean it?

Without a picture, it's hard to tell. But, I would venture there is a good chance of some retained skin around the finger. The black line you mentioned may be indicative of it. Can you post a picture of the finger?

I'll try. I'm having a hard time getting a clear one. Plus I'm not sure how to post one. Any help on that will be great. If it is the skin how can I help him?

Hi, Jenn:
Well, maybe you can just get the best you possibly can and we'll work with that. I also have had a hard time posting pictures before. If you'd like, email it to me at teguguy@lycos.com -- that should be easier to do.
I've never had to deal with the problem myself but I have read that soaking and perhaps a little oil on the finger may help. First, though, let's make sure that's what the problem is. Get the best picture you can and try posting it or emailing it.

I agree that from the way you describe it, it does sound like retained skin from a shed.
