he's still scared of me

elykyllek Oct 30, 2003 02:19 PM

I've had my mail uro for about a month and a half now, for the first week or so I left it to get used to its new evironment, then the hurricane happened and knocked out our power for a few days, that didn't help the situation. I started giving it baths (it has never liked them), but loved the blowdryer afterwards. For a while it seemed to be getting quite used to me, and becoming quite friendly, not running when I went to pick it up etc.

Getting to the point of this post, for the last week or so, he has become very frighten of me, running from me, and not liking me picking him up at all. He is about half way done molting his tail, could that be the cause of his anxiety?

Aswell, what is the recommended way of holding your uro, I spend most of the time going hand over hand so that he doesn't run off, is this normal?

Thanks

Feeding by hand works wonders. Did you have a strange new smell on your hand that you hadn't thought of? Also when you hang out to watch a little tv in the evening, hold your uro in a towel (wrapped up) on your lap/chest; they'll fall asleep and get used to you even further. Once they associate you with food/shelter/warmth, you're good to go.
