In the wild they do eat a lot of these animals, along with the rodents they come across. My suggestiong, of course, would be to get him eat frozen/thawed rodents. It's a lot cleaner than feeding birds, even though you can get them frozen also. Ratsnakes should take rodents all the time. I've never seen one that would refuse a meal.
...rodents are a more complete diet for ratsnakes. Yellows will probably take birds and their eggs, but I wouldn't make it the whole diet, just occasionally, if necessary. Remember, if they're w/c birds, they can have parasites.
I know that day-old chicks tend to be a bit nutrient deficient, older birds would probably be better. A mix of birds and rodents would probably be great, but there's just not a lot of data as to how an all bird diet affects this kind of snake.
