My new Saharan half dead baby.Update.

Flavia Guimaraes Oct 30, 2003 02:53 PM

When i bought my new URO, a Saharan, ten days ago,it was very thin and weak. Its weight was only 120grs!I de-wormed it, put it alone in a separated cage and i gave it good food.It started to gain weight very fast. Then suddenly i dont know why it started to lose weight again.Although it was eating its greens its weight dropped to 120grs again and it started to drag its body instead of walking like my other Uros(2 Malis). Then i started to give it NUTRICAL and to force feed it.Today its weight increased a little bit, it is now 140grs and it is looking slightly better.Yesterday he entered his hiding tube to sleep for the first time since i bought it!I would like to know whether i need to keep its lights on during the night too.Although where i live is very hot even during the night ( the temp never drops lower than 78/80) i wonder if it will be more happy if i keep a basking lamp at 120F during the night too. What do you think?

I think it it is because of one or two reasons.
1 your other male
2 you 100% humidity.
1 If you have two males together which you do the submissive male will stop eating and just give up. When this happens they lose weight really fast like you said. So you should definatly separate them before he starts getting attacked and the other male inflicts deadly injuries.
2 as you said in previous posts that you have 100% humidity or more constantly. I think that the mali is tougher than your new geyri and the humidity is effecting it. I think that you should separate them, and keep them somewhere where there is less humidity. if it is because of the humidity i would also put the mali in a dry place because it also might effect him with time.

i used to house my geyri male with my mali male and they got along for 2 months fine, then the mali started chasing the geyri and the geyri would run into the sides of the tank and broke his jaw. So i separated them and now after force feeding he is back to normal and went from 166-230 within 2 months. So i would separate them, and force feed the saharan/geyri/yellow for a week or two or until he starts eating. Separate them now before it is too late.

I did what you suggested me!I separated them, i put the Saharan in a new cage, im force feeding him and he got 20/30 grs already (from 120grs to 145grs)but he still barely moves! He sleeps the whole day in his basking area!Thats normal?
