Question for Monte, Robin, and others who produce bold stripes

StarGecko Oct 30, 2003 05:14 PM

I like the look of the bold stripes with the thick black solid stripes. I have a stripe but it doesn't lok anything like those. Do those stay looking like that as the gecko matures? Also, how did you get them to look like that? Did you find stripes that looked like that and breed them, or did you select for geckos with large spots and work from there? Also, have you found these breed as true recessive traits, are you unsure, or are they selectively bred?

To add to this, i own a couple of Robins babies, and they keep the bold striping on the back, but the tail will break up a little bit.

i do not believe all stripes are genetic in natures (poop happens sometimes) however from this last years poairing... i bred my female stripe to my male stripe and 100% of the offspring were striped head to tail. my male is a very bold animal but lots of black and a narrow stripe, the female looks very similar to the babies pictured in kelli's post . these guys seem to be having something genetic going on and i think it's recessive.. i should know a little more this next season however i plan on breeding the male to a junglrish female with a banded tail, a hypo stripe(head to tail striping), to the same female i paired him with last season and another full striper from a completely different line.
i also am breeding a jungle female to a "het stripe" if you will and the same "het stripe" male will also breed a full striper and his normal looking "het" sister.
i should have more info to post this next season

one last thing, i think the color can be bred for selectively... so pair a selectively bred trait to a "possible" recessive trait or perhaps a couple of recessive traits and you could possibly get some kick butt animals

Thanks for the info. I like those bold stripes. I have a stripe but the black bands turned into spots. The nice thing about the bold stripes is that the striping is really obvious. Will be interesting to see what results you get from the "hets". I have heard several breeders say their stripe lines are recessive. I am curious as to what the hypo stripe looks like, could you post a picture?
