New Poll for all on the forum.

earthpig23 Oct 30, 2003 09:07 PM

It is last minute so please post quickly.

My wife went to the pet store to get some mealies for or leos and found a Beutiful and I mean beutiful candy cane corn there. This shop has good help and is knowledgable about reps. However alot of their corns dont are in less than perfect cages..of course for display and sell. Alot of the corns regurge ..they keep feeding schedules and results on cages. The snakes are never unhealthy they just have a tendency to become problem feeders due to stress of the cages. No real hide spots available.

So the Poll question is should me and my wife snatch up and rescue this beuty and get if a proper home?

Your post is a bit contradictory. First you say they are knowledgeable about herps, then you say the corns aren't taken care of properly.

Which is it? Sounds to me like the typical pet store.

Since the store has the snake's records available, use that to see if it's feeding alright. If it's been regurgitating it may not make it once it's in your care. Also, you have to think that if you buy it from them, you are only helping them get more snakes to abuse in the long run. If instead it has been eating well, and it's price is in the range you are willing to pay, then it's up to you.

If it was me, I'd pass on it. But that's my opinion. I would NEVER buy an animal from a pet store that didn't treat/house their animals as good or better than I do.

My post was contradictory because they are contradictory. They have many reptiles and diffrent type of snakes. One of their employees actually raises and breeds reps and is going to school for it..Biology maybe I dont now..Anyways the other reptiles they have are kept quite well. They have nice setups for all of them including hide spots and accesories inside. It is just looks as if they seem to think that maybe corn snakes dont need all of the fancy setups. They are in shoebox size enclosures with a water dish and carpet for substrate. The snakes hide under the carpet mostly.
They get their snakes from a breeder and they always eat the first few times but it seems like after a couple of months and nones bought them then they soon have regurg problems. I am just thinking that its a stressful environment for to long. This corn just came in last week and has already ate a meal with no problems.

My Childrens python that i have was purchased by them and is by far my healthiest eater.

So I guesse what I meant to post was should I rescue the Corn from too much time in a pet store and not being bought and rescued from possibly someone else buying it and not appreciating it as much.

The post was meant to just be amuing seeing how many people would think I should go and buy another corn on an impulse buy.
I was as Gargoyle already put it already willing to buy it. However now thanx to you two I might just have to stand back and think about it thanx.

I can understand your dilema I guess I would probably pass on the pet store corn, if he's that pretty he'll probably get grabbed up quickly, and if not, you can always get him later I have a Love candy cane and he's a great eater and doing wonderfully. I guess I'd buy from someone I trusted, before freeing up a space at the pet store.

(keep in mind, Kathy calls Kane a "low-end" candy cane)

O.K. so I went and seen the Candy cane and although its was healthy and eating and had recently shed well it was not as beutiful as my wife made out. I think she has just gone corn snake crasy. Anyways I have decided to hunt for some breeders I have E-mailed Kathy but doubt hse has any Candy's So my wife just might have to wait for the next clutch.
