Silkworms are supposed to be the best staple diet you can provide, because they're highly nutritious and they don't have a hard shell. But they're harder to come by, plus, your leo might not like them. Only one of mine did, and that was after she had to stop and think about it.

I agree. Silkworms are the best food source available IMO. I tried them for my leos before, but they didnt care much for them though...

They just looked at it, licked it a couple of times, and left uninterested.

I would not feed solely silkworms because you can't vary the diet by varying the gutload like you can with mealies and crix, they only eat mulberry leaves. And also I just think it's good to provide variety in the diet. But they are very good food for leos, if your leos will eat them. Some geckos love them, some don't seem to recognize them as food.

thanks for your replies everyone

i've seen silk worms on diff. reptile sites & at the pet store, but wasn't sure if i could add it to my leo's diet. i give him a small varied diet (mostly mealworms as his staple, a couple crickets here and there, and one wax worm every other week) - his tail is actually getting kinda bigger, so i'm planning on cutting down the waxies to once a month thank goodness i got a couple toads that like to eat waxies so i don't feel like i'm wasting money i'll try silk worms and hopefully melvin keeps interest

thanks again all!
