humidity is dropping!

dragonlady1954 May 29, 2003 09:34 PM

I have had a clutch of 24 eggs in a hovabator turbofan incubator since last Thursday. I had the incubator on for appx 6 days before my beardie laid her eggs so it was well calibrated. I have kept a chart of temps and humidity levels since the eggs were put in. The Temp has never gone above 84.5 degrees but stays about 82 to 84 degrees. The humidity levels have been around 93% at the highest but was about 88% 4 hours ago. I noticed that over the past hour or so it has dropped to 80%. Is that something to be worried about? I have the eggs in plastic containers with moist vermiculite (not wet) with the lid laying on top of the plastic container and a container of water in the incubator. At what humidity level does it become harmful to the eggs?? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

I have never measured the humidity level in my incubators. I have the thermal air hovabators not the turbo fan (as I heard that the fan can dry the eggs up more quickly).

I would recommend that you make sure the vermiculite stays moist (so it clumps, but doesnt drip water) and make sure the containers the eggs are in have a lid on. Also having a cup of water in the incubator is good too.

Maybe someone else can help you with the exact humidity. But as long as you keep doing what your doing and check the eggs every so often and make sure they are maintaining their plump look things should be fine.

Lindsay, do you seal your let tight? ...put some airholes in the container? ...or set the lid just on the top without sealing it down tight?
Thanks,
Sharla

LID, that is!

I drill 4-6 small holes in each container and I snap the lid on tight I drill the holes on the sides, towards the top. Lindsay
