A couple ?'s

shuler06 Oct 31, 2003 07:53 AM

1st, does anyone have plans for building display cages. I'm talking the ones that you can actually view the geckos with and not a rack system. 2nd, What software do you guys use to keep records on your Leo's I am looking for something that covers: history, breeding, any illnesses, feeding and growth. I would like to incorporate the ability to place pictures in the data base as well. Given some time I can probably design something, but why re create the wheel?

Thanks,

Tim

I'm not exactly going to be of much help here...

About the software, the only thing I have used is Excel. But I'm sure you are looking for something much more "custom" for your records. I honestly don't even use Excel anymore, I found the easiest way for me is to simply keep a written record.

That being said, if you manage to come up with a cool software package I would love to check it out.

I have programmed a database that keeps track of my geckos in Access. It is pretty basic, but now that things have calmed down with my work databases I am getting back to it. Once I have my prototype completed in Access I will then work to get it to be a 'stand-alone' application.

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two

There is software out there. I saw one program a few days ago but I can't remember where (I've been trying to remember for the past hour but it isn't coming to me...). It was about a 3.5 MB program some guy had written to track reptiles. It mentioned stuff like feeding and weight records.

I agree it should be easy enough to create yourself, but if I can find the link, I'll post it (no promises as it's halloween, which means drinking and partying, so my brain might not work so well by monday morning...)

Thanks Blaine & Ross. Good to see you on again Ross, when you didn't reply to the red stripe thread earlier on this forum I started to worry. I am fairly good at coming up with a data base like I want, it just takes time. Computers have been a passion of mine for about 15 years now. Between Uncle Sam and my new course certification in MCSA time is pretty tight. If I get one up and running I'll send you the beta version...lol. You can help me fine tune it. Just got two beautiful little girls from Shayna at Leo Lovers Lizard Lounge so I'm off to include them in my sig. Take care all

... between your leos and beardie, do you have a favourite? How do beardies compare personality-wise to the leos?

I'm in no position to get a beardie now (still renting for univ., so I have no space), but now that I've got a leo, I'm curious about other reptiles, and beardies seem pretty cool and seem like something I might want to get in a year or two when I'm out of univ.

Hey Blaine, Fred my male Snow and Yellow beardie is quite a character. Def. not as docile as my Leos, he pretty much does his own thing. Beardies require a great deal more space than Leos. Fred is in a 30 Gallon all by himself and that is starting to look small. He is however a part of the family and if he were not here to greet us everyday something would be missing.

Yeah I havn't been on nearly as much as I would like to be... I try to check the forums a couple times a day, but sometimes I just get a little too busy =( But of all the days to miss a post it was about the Red Stripes! lol

I'd be more than happy to check out a beta version if you put something together. That sounds really neat.

Good luck with everything.

Talk to you later.

Like Ross, I also use a home-made Excel worksheet to keep track of feeding, weight, egg-laying, medication, and even stools! LOL! That way I can do charts or graphs to follow trends on specific geckos and/or groups. There is a software package for reptile record keeping thru justreptiles.com/index1.html

BTW, I may be letting go of my breeder male albino Luther as soon as I can get ahold of one of Star Gecko's tangerine males. You can see Luther in the "Breeders" page of my website. Also, how are the GGGex doing?

Hi Marcia!

Great to hear from you! Hope all is well with you and yours. Don't worry your babies/my babies are doing great. Bam-bam is over 60 grams, with Pebbles not far behind. Both are gorgeous and love to sit on my shoulder. Pebbles is actually losing all the spots on her back. I have been promoted so I am moving on post. Every one thinks it is because I rate better quarters now, but the truth is it will give me an extra room for my reptiles free electricity ...LOL! Luther looks awesome, I have 3 girls that would love to meet him...they are all Pisces and love long walks on warm slate, the nice quiet seclusion of a Terra-Expo cave, mealworms at their disposal(they are so spoiled). Turnoffs include: Bright lights and crickets...LOL The Leo Dating Service.
Take care of yourself, and don't over do it ok? Talk to you soon.
