i read some where that it's nearly impossible to keep HL even for experts. is this true? could a first time begginer like me succesfully keep 2 in a twenty with sand and a desert set up.

Yes they are hard to keep, they need a very strict diet of harvester ants, 90% at least. They need specific lighting set ups too. The feeding is the hardest part because of their spefic diet.
Opinions sure do vary. When you say they need a diet of at least 90% ants what species are you referring to? They are all different. Even the most highly ant eating species have been successfully kept fed a highly varied diets with ants making up a very small portion of that diet. Prey size is much more important. To answer the question some individuals can be difficult to keep because of the stress factor, they simply aren't able to adapt to captivity, but this goes for most wild-caught lizards. DON'T buy a WC HL unless your going to give 100% effort in it's transition to captivity.
