Watery Loose Smelly stools.

gothbich2000 Oct 31, 2003 01:11 PM

if a stool is watery loose and really smelly, is this a sign of parasites? Not all of the stools are this way. Some have a decent intergrity, while others are splashes on the ground of feces.

I know this sounds really gross, but can some of yall post pics of healthy stools, so I can compare?

Watery and smelly stools are a sure sign of some kind of infection, but not neccessarily parasites. It could be a bacterial infection. Bacterial infections are 100% curable but the animal needs veterinary care and antibiotoics if that is the cause. If it is protozoans there are different medications required. You need to take your anuimal to the vet. Did you fix your temps?

[bleep]!!!

yeah I did fix em. Since the whole Invert/reptile collection is on a rack unit, I just put em both on the middle rack and now the lamp shines in from the bottom. Its not too close so the graditn is over Id say 40% of the back end.

My baby gecko has that too. Some are formed well, and others are watery.
Today he threw up all his food. I think he ate to many mealworms.
Now I'm going to feed him the mealies that just shed (easier digesting).
Since I hatched him, he has never been it contact with another gecko. I think he is still developing and his body is getting adjusted. Be sure to give him lots of water to prevent dehydration.

Infections can be transmitted via feeders, the environment, and even from you.

Baby leos do throw up occassionally when they get eyes-are-bigger-than-their-stomachitis, and if a gecko eats waxies or drinks a lot of water stools can be softer than usual, but truly runny stools are not normal and should be checked out via fecal at the vet.

My vet says really smelly, runny stools are a sure sign of a bacterial infection. You'll need to see the vet for a diagnosis & meds. Good luck!
