I love finding large coachwhips.......

:O)

Very nice... king... Can't wait to see him next spring..

they look like litter mates to me.....?? When my son found these you should of seen the look on his face... pricless......
He picked the board up and said in a serious tone "AAA DAD.......... you might want to come over here" LOL He was very proud of himself....

:O)

Saftey first in Helleri country....... A small fence line of habitat...... Appox 30 ft by 1/8 of a mile long that continues to produce snakes..............a very small and fragmented piece of habitat.....

) I hope every one is enjoying the pics...

Great pics!!!! What paer to SD did you see the banana/striped cal king. i miss CA. i used to live on Campen, ca and then escondo, a few years ago, i hope to get back to CA to do some photo/herping. i am back in LI Ny which isn't that greatest place for herps.lol Have you ever found any b/w desert striped cal kings out there? i never found one in the wild. Great photos, thanks for sharing them with us, Dave
WOW.... San Diego County....
An amazing kingsnake to see in person.....

:O)

Riverside county...

Hey is that light banded king a blue eyed blonde? It looks awesome. Talk to you later.
Dan
Thanks for the kind words. But I am not a God of anything... LOL
I have learned a lot from those who preceded me in finding California herps. I think Hubb's and I are about the only ones who go out just to see Cal King's much anymore. LOL I still enjoy seeing them year after year......when many herpers go on to bigger and better things like Z's and Pyro's or crotes...
But IMO the Getulas rules..... :O)
Thanks again

Still a boa is a boa...

found under tarp in coastal Riverside county.... A not to common find.....

Nice find... I do not have a pic but I found two Black Headed snakes in the same rock pile last April one right after the other.
It was pretty exiting for the kids.
Tony
Right before the picture was taken...

:O)

:O) As found....

there was a king under this tin... found AFTER taking the picture... Most of the time I take the picture of the cover or place after I see the herp.... I love it when that happens..
:O)
Nice .. Looks like some places I go herpin' in So. Cal.

But I am not to fond of if it
Very good habitat in fact...
Some wonderful looking snakes you have there!
www.reptilist.com

:O) We found 9 boas that afternoon....(because of the right rainfall and weather..) verus 2002 when I found "0" boas under rocks because of "no" rainfall and a record lack thereof. Same time of year...........
Found by Hubb's himself.

Looks and acts like a water snake to me.... But what do I know...???

I agree. I always wondered why they were placed in Thamnophis and not Nerodia. I have even heard that they act more like Nerodia in habits than Thamnophis. Cool pic. Don't see too many of 'em. Andy

It's easy to tell which ringnecks eat skinks.....

Wow that Regal Ringneck is an amazing looking snake. How big do they avg ? Are they like most Diadophis or like the Regal and get big ? All your pics are amazing.Scott Wahlberg

It's not a Regal... It's a San Bernardino/San Diego Intergrade
Ringneck Snake..Diadophis Punctatus Modestus/Similis (I think)
The Skink and legless lizard eaters get quite a bit bigger than than salamander eaters.....which are much like the smaller ringnecks found back east.. None of which get as big as the snake eating Regal... I have a 25 inch Similis that is a avid skink eater..........
Thanks for the kind words

Snakes of Hudspeth County, Texas
One of my favorite finds....

but he was not included in the total...... because I found him in 2002....

:O)

Every year atleast 2 spots end up this way........ IT's very sad and discourging, especialy when you just take pictures most the time and you think of all the herps you've left behind.....that are now buried. depressing... to say the least.

I know how you feel man. My favorite herping spot is in the process of being torn down as we speak. It really sucks because this is where I have caught several spectacular looking Calligaster over the last few years. Makes we want to start hurting developers. But there doesn't seem to be much we can do about it..........Scott Wahlberg

It sucks..... No doubt about it.....

You should have bought it first!
....
Same story here in Texas bro. I used to have some awesume spots in a "little" town called cedar hill. Copperheads, rattlers, milks, speckled kings, you name it. That was 13 years ago. I went back last year while visiting my parents; forget it! There were homes and stores all over the place. Kinda sad that I had to give my daughter the "well honey, it used to be here"speech.

??

The traffic cones aren't evenly spaced apart?
Can you see the "wild forever" sign right next to the land mover....?? Kinda Ironic...
Lazy workers?
the land mover.... Great huh!!!! Wild forever my ass...

I went home after seeing this. No longer wanting to herp that day........

a picture is worth a thousand words...

a boa was found under one of rocks...
:O)
I really appreciate the habitat photo's. You are the king of king snake's. My favourite was the green ringneck and I loved the banana king. I hope that there's still some habitat left for me when I finally get to herp Cali
Thanks for the pics,
James

Thanks.......
)Very common in this particular area that we searched that day.

all under same rock..... It was no small task to hold on to them as they dashed in three different directions. LOL While holding up the rock on a fairly steep slope... It was pretty funny...
Anyway they poised nicley for the picture and went their way.....

thats where I would hide...

This one was as big as I ve seen.... Look at his head.. almost looks crote like... A wonderul find..........................

This picture was taken while night driving and neither of the snakes were moved, touched, harassed, or bothered in anyway..
Both found travelling paralel to the road... Which had a lot of traffic.....
This find is proof of two important night driving tips.....for beginners....

:O)
LMAO you must take your herping pretty serioulsy. Good post.Scott Wahlberg

It's amazing how resourceful they are..
LOL
Thanks for sharing them.
Kerby...

The snake pix are always more fun, but I think the shots of old habitats will be especially valuable when they are bulldozed in the future. I hope you're saving them.
If you're taking requests, is there any chance you have a picture of one of those speckled Cal Kings you told me about that came from another spot which was recently destroyed? I'd like to see what they look like.
Thanks
?
And I have had all kinds of problems with my photo software on my new OS... That said I was able to save all my photos and data on my old hard drive... I will need to reformat my new OS than try to reinstall my pics,, before I can post them.. But I will get them up soon... All of the above pics were previously upload to my website....
Hows that for an excuse... LOL
