Enclosures- Glass versus melamine

eppon Oct 31, 2003 02:32 PM

Currently, our juvenile dragon is kept in a 4x2x2 glass enclosure, but we plan to build a melamine cage in the future. I guessing that melamine will hold heat better than glass, is this true?

The reason I'm wondering is because his cage's ambient temps have dropped about 5 degrees recently (it's 75 degrees on the cold end now)! The basking spot is still 108-110.

Previously I used one of those huge rubbermaid tubs, I'd guesstimate probably around 30 gallons. It worked great but the only problem was that is was just so large and bulky, with limited space and the fact that it just to cold at night to leave them outside. Now I am using a smaller 19qt rubbemaide container, I believe it cost me around $3 and its small enough that I can just stick it right under my cage stand. I am on my second batch of 1000 crix and it seems be working A-OK, although it is a little tricky getting the crix out of the shipping box into the tub without losing a bunch. Hope that helps ya sir.
