What kind of plants do you prehensile taileds skinks owners use?

jrbl Oct 31, 2003 02:57 PM

I know pothos, but what other plants do you use? I was hoping to use moss or some other kind of groundcover around the soaking dish(s), is this okay? Would PTS try to eat bromelaids? I was hoping to create a natural like setting with tropical plants and such. Thank you for you help, jrbl

All I use is silk plants for decor, which actually look pretty 'real' unless you are VERY close. I put in pothos every few weeks for snack/treat purposes- it gets destroyed rapidy. Dan had a ficus tree in his enclosure for awhile- it didn't get eaten, but it did eventually get pretty shredded from the PTS climbing in it. Exept for the x-large ficus trees, the branches are fairly small and aren't very supportive. I used a boston fern for awhile, it didn't get eaten, but it also got ripped to shreds over a few weeks. PTS are very destructive to live plants. I wouldn't personally recommend plants or moss on the bottom, as with the large quantities of fecal material these guys are capable of producing, you will have mold problems in the plant dirt, and keeping the area clean with plants and pots will be very hard. I have trouble enough with newspaper and a soak bowl on the bottom. They shower the bottom with food scraps, shed skin scraps, feces and urine.
cheers, Jess b
