Dry nose

tegulizards Oct 31, 2003 03:12 PM

It seems that all 3 of my argentines have a reddish scab or something odd on thier lip/nose area. I thought at first that it was from the coconut bark, however I see it peeling off of my male and am getting concerned about it. It seems to be pink underneath, I just got them from Bert Langerwerf and think it might have to do with coming in from his outside terreria to my inside cage. Let me know if you know what this is and how to stop it. Thanks guys and girls.

Sounds like a scab from rubbing on the sides of their cage. Do you have a big enough cage and do you take them out every day, and how long do you take them out for?

my temporary cage is a reptarium (all screen) and it is a 175 gallon cage. They are dwarfed by it. The male is hibernating and the female comes out once a day for about an hour or two at a time if left alone. Rubbing doesnt seem like a possibility, however anything could be. I take the female out for about 45 minutes at a time and she is my wifes baby so she gets lots of roam time and lovins. The male doesnt come out much because of his situation. The 2 month old doesnt seem to have the problem.
So 2 out of 3 are showing it.
Thank you for the reply though, I am just a bit worried.

Well that rules out nose rubbing. But if you haven't already, seperate the Tegu that is not effected by whatever this is from the other two if possible. After a shed or 2 maybe the dryness will go away.
