i got my misting system today but could use some help

compasscreek May 29, 2003 10:29 PM

i bought a wet works mr. moisture and recieved it today. i have it set up on the cage but there has to be a better/more secure method of attaching it to the cage. can someone post a couple pictures of the way the hose is attached to the cage AND how you have the nozzle on top? currently i have the hose to the nozzle taped with electrical tape to the light fixtureand then zip tied to the fixture to hold it in place but the nozzle, i think, should be a little better fastened to the top of the cage. it more or less just rests on top and points in the general direction of down.one of my guys that works for me says he can fix this but i would like to here/see a coiuple options before i turn the kid loose. other then this problem i think this is going to work out very well. i still haven't reciced my nosey be' yet and i'm in the process of KILLING my ficus plant! i repotted it and took off the root ball to put new soil in and washed the leaves and it hhas put the plant into shock. we're trying to save the plant but i may just go buy another. poop happens huh?!?

Dennis-

Sorry I have been very busy to many things to do not enough time to do it all. Here is a picture of a good way to secure the misting nozzle (www.trix.com/binx/mister/P0001084-x3.html). I have not tried it yet, but I think it will work great, right now I just have a hole poked in the screen and the misting nozzle sticking down in the cage, but I have 6 cages hooked up to mine and will have more very soon, and I don't have any problems. The washers look like a great idea and I have been to homedepot 3 times today and had them on my list but you know how things go, you always forget something, it has been on my list for months, but it is not a big priority for me or it would have already been done!LOL! I think I will make it a priority and pic some up the next visit to homedepot.

As for the ficus trees, they are know as being leaf droppers. If you are keeping it inside make sure you buy the tree inside the store or in a shaded area outside or you will soon have a bare tree. Also don't mess with the root system of any ficus tree or you will see the tree drop all its leafs. Se my site for info on covering the bottom of the pots, or just use screen to cover it. When you buy the tree don't buy any with a white film on the leafs.

Hope this helps!

As has been pointed out Ficus do leaf drops all the time. By messing with the root ball you increased the plant shock. You can get Vitamin b1 at a local nursery (maybe home depot, too) which is for lessening the shock a plant goes into when it is transplanted. This will not hurt your cham - look for one w/o any additional synthetic ingredients.

Ficus are prone to spider mites, which you won't see, but you will see their tell-tale fine webbing below leaves and in leaf/branch crotches and the leaves will begin to yellow. They thrive in dry environments so it shouldn't be too much of a problem if your humidity is high, just something to know

I commend you for setting everything up before your new critter arrives - you'll make a good cham Dad
