Hi Jake,
Dart frogs need to be offered small feeder insects. At 5 months your leucomelas should be able to eat hatchling to 1/8 inch crickets just fine. Although they might be able to handle crickets that are a little larger I wouldn't recomend offering them. Not all dart frogs can handle food items that are the width of their head in size so that general rule doesn't apply to them.
Leucomelas like to be kept a little warmer than many of the other common dart frog species. During the day it should be in the high 70's to low 80's. At night it shouldn't fall below 70 often. You might want to add another heating pad to your terrarium or move the tank to a warmer room.
I would recomend keeping a small dish of water in their cage if you don't have any water holding plants or other areas where water collects. They don't soak too often but it doesn't hurt to offer it. Talk to you later,
>>I have 4 D. lecus that I have had for about 2 months now. They were about 3 months old when I got them. I wanted to know what a good size cricket would be to feed them? Are they like bearded dragons or geckos in that you use the space between their eyes to judge the size of the circket, being that a cricket smaller than the space between their eyes is fine?
>>
>>My temps are running as hot has 78 during the day and drop to 65 at night, is that about right or a little to hot?
>>
>>Do they need a dish of water or not? I have one in there, but it soaks through the cermic and into the moss in a few hours.
>>
>>Thanks for your help, Jake.
