Renovating a walk in closet...

Lucien Oct 31, 2003 09:44 PM

for a Bosc enclosure. Our new house we're moving into has some huge walk in closets with each bedroom. We're talking about 7 or 8 ft long by 4 or 5 ft wide. Now, I'd like to escape proof it.. layer plastic along the bottom and sides, add a vent to the door at the bottom for air flow and mount the lights along the underside of a shelf in there.. Also add a 2 or 3 ft high lip in front of the door as a hold in for the substrate... Decomposed granite if I can get ahold of it. We have a granite quarry here.. so that shouldn't be too hard. What do you guys think? Would it possibly work if done right?

And use dirt, decomposed granite is hard. Build a cage designed to hold the animals etc., instead of risking damage to your house and closets.

The decomposed granite idea was due to reading a few things from Pro-exotics and thats what they used.. plus a few other people.. though I may go with dirt anyway due to the ease of getting it... As for the reason for renovating a closet... saving space but allowing for room for Kiros to move around. The closet wouldn't be used for anything otherwise.. which is why I'd like to use it for this... the door needs replacing anyway so I'm probably going to end up installing a door with plexiglass in it for viewing...Its just an idea at this time really.

I like the idea personally. I converted a shower unit into an enclosure for 2 savs a few years ago and it worked well. They do EDU shows with a local guy now so I don't have the setup, but home projects are fun. Be careful with the floor though. Make sure it can support that much weight. Dirt gets heavy in a hurry plus the monitor itself and accessories. If your floor can take it, I say it would be an awesome thing to have. I wish I had the extra room. Good Luck.
