New baby

Parks Ranch Nov 01, 2003 10:18 AM

We were getting ready to evacuate our home last Sunday for the Cedars Fire in San Diego and right in the middle of our patio with ashes raining down was a brand new tiny hatchling looking around. I've named this baby Hope - our neighborhood remained untouched, but well over 2000 homes have burned in the last week during this wild fire.

What has happened? If you are up to talking about it?
Mine my seem minor, but my one turtle egg has collapsed some more. Not 50% like i was told was time to give up, but i would say over 30%. so i am pretty sad, i dont feel it will be a good out come, but i am still trying.

well, really dont want to talk about it... i dont even want to think about this but i feel like getting it out. warning. only read this if you want to have a ruined night.

on my way to work yesterday right down the street from my house i spied an eastern boxie crossing the street, so i pulled a u turn, and got out of my car to do what anyone would have done... move the little guy to the other side of the road. i waited for an suv to pass before darting out in the middle of the street. well, too bad a F***ing a**hole was driving the car because he hit and killed the turtle RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! I AM TOO ANGRY FOR WORDS STILL. I couldn't believe it! I am still in shock, it's all too sad. But hearing the story about the little hatchling sort of made me feel better.... um... yeah, that's it. everyone go and hug your turtle now.

Oh Gosh. I am sooooo sorry. That is horrible. The turtle i had wrote about was hit by a car, and we seen it, so we went up the road to turn around and go back, and a dog was tossing her around when we got back. She had been hit and wirled into a yard. so we finally got her from the dog. she was hurt, but is doing pretty good, other that she keeps laying me one egg in her swimming/water bowl.I will send you a hug also.

kudos for rescuing your turtle. a lot of people just drive right by like they didn't even notice anything... there should be a lot more drivers like you. Is she your first turtle?

cavyscandy Nov 04, 2003 10:48 AM

Yes she is my first turtle. My husband has gotten 3 since, but we give them to a man who has a very large sanctuary with a pond ect. but she was to hurt for that and now she is doing better, and she gets real well for me she stays in her water unless she can see me getting worms or starberrys ect. the she comes out and eats. she doesnt hide any more when i pick her up, ect. so i WANT to keep her, but not sure what is best. she is inside in a 8 foot long, 3 foot wide incloser. 3x3 is swimming area 3x3 in dirt and 2x3 is plan land. it would be sping before i could build her anything outside. But i have read that i am not doing her well by keeping her in. so i am watching for signs to tell me is i most give her away. Right now i am really worried about her egg cause it sunk in. I am guessing it has died, but i was told not to give up, so i am keeping it moist and warm. I have read and read.
