"hypo" question

tribbielvr Feb 08, 2003 06:01 PM

I am trying to learn as much as I can about the color terminology
in the leos and would like to ask exactly what does "hypo" refer to
when phrased like "hypo" tangerine.

Does anyone have a good link with colors, patterns and their descriptions?
Thanks
Nina

Hypo is usually short for hypomelanistic. Hypomelanistice means: hypo-reduced, melanistic(melanin)-black pigment. therefore a hypo tangerine is a high orange leo with reduced amount of black skin pigment(less spots) and a super hypo tang is an extremely bright orange leo with little to no black pigment on it's body. hope i helped

the term hypo is short for hypomelanistic. hypo means less of and melanism is black. so if a leo is a hypo it has less black. if the leo was hypermelanistic then it would have an increases amount of black because hyper is more. A hypo tangerine is a leo with very little spots on the body and it is a tangerine color. please someone correct me if i am wrong on all of this but i am pretty sure that i got it right.
