i lost my baby flapneck, geronimo

compasscreek Nov 01, 2003 02:14 PM

this morning i had to run some errands. so i fed my chamelons(the ones that get fed today anyway) and checked double checked on my 4 weeks old flapneck. he looked like he was doing fine basking under the lamp. i just got home about 1 hour ago and see what looks like a leaf lying on the bottom of the cage, but i KNOW it isn't a leaf because no leaves ever fall in geronimo's cage. i go and look and sure enough he is lying on the bottom of the cage with his tongue hanging out.. i picked up carefully aput him uder the a lamp for about 10 minutes thinking maybe he maybe he needs to warm up, but he was dead already and the heat had no affect. i just changed his cage around too earlier this week. i put him on the misters with the other chameleons and took the drift wood out and the silk plants and replaced them with a real ficus. i think he was getting to much water. that's got to be what it is. we were just hand misting him before. lesson learn i guess. i calledmy wife at work and she told me to call dr. greek and schedule a necropsy(?) but i told her it doesn't matter now and i rather use the money to fill the cage again. she said said she'd stop buy the reptile store and see if they had a younger jackson.

Dennis, I am sorry . I haven't been following the forum that closely lately...was this one from someone you knew? I never thought they would sell them that young. You're near the fires, right? Could it be from the smoke? Those tiny little lungs?

Hey Dennis,
sorry to hear about your loss. Dr. Greek does free necropsies on animals he's seen before, just make sure you put the flapneck in the fridge and not the freezer. I made the mistake of putting my cham in the freezer and he told me the ice crystals damage their tissues so badly that its hard to see what went wrong. Still might want to think of having it done just to know for next time. Hope this helps.
