Unstable humidity

breen7 May 30, 2003 12:31 AM

My friend has a horizontal glass aquarium situated virtically with a mesh lid and several plastic plants, moist substrate, and branches. The humidity in his tank seems to be very unstable... It goes as high as 80 when he's really misted it heavily, and they drop down to 50 or 60 after a few hours.

Any suggestions on how to keep the humidity stable in his tank would be appreciated.

My suggestion, don't heavily mist it..just mist it once or twice (morning and evening)

50-60 is just fine. I keep all my rhacs at the room’s ambient humidity with a light spraying in the evening. If you live in a really dry area, it’s winter or the gecko is not shedding well you can mist a bit more. 80% is too high to keep 24/7. You are just asking for bacteria and mold build-ups that can cause potential health problems for your gecko. It’s fine the way it is.
