Looking For Digital Camera.......more

OneTwoManyHerps Nov 01, 2003 05:09 PM

I am looking for a digital camera within the price range of 0-200 that takes overall good pictures and is somewhat easy to use. If you have an idea of a camera please let me know and if you could provide an example picture that would be greatly appreciated!

I can do almost that. I can tell you how to find it. Go to www.yahoo.com, and go to Yahoo Shopping. Select electronics, then digital cameras. They will list them by price, or resolution. Select price, so you know the cameras will be at or under $200. Find one or more models. Write down their make and model number. Then log onto www.steves-digicams.com. That site will list camera reviews by make and model number (alphabetically). Each review shows all the features, and functions of the cameras. Photographs are shown with the reviewed camera, and bad points, as well as good points are brought up. Good Luck finding your camera.

I would recommend a Nikon. Nikon cameras are fantastic, especially for reptile photography, IMO. I think the Nikons do a terrific job in capturing coloration in reptiles. I don't know much about the new Nikon cameras in the $200 price range. However, you can try picking up a used older model such as a Nikon Coolpix 950 or a 990, 995. I know these are still available new at around $300 to $350 even though they aren't being manufactured anymore. BUT, you can pick up a used 950 on Ebay for around $100 to $200 depending on the condition and what accessories are included (just type in Nikon Coolpix 950 into the Ebay search engine).

I personally feel that the older models such as the 950, 990, and the 995 take better photos and are a little more user friendly than the newer Nikon Coolpix 4500. Out of these three, I like the 995 the best because it has a pop-up flash which tends not to wash out coloration as much (the flash is farther from the lens). I'll post some photos below for you to take a look at...

I took these two pictures with a Nikon Coolpix 950...

And this photo was taken with a Nikon Coolpix 995...

Keep in mind that all of these photos have been resized and compressed to make them user friendly. These pictures are also straight out of the camera with no editing in photoshop or anything. I hope this info helps. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions about these cameras and I'll try my best to help!
