Female Retic Acting up!!!!!!

sincityretics Nov 01, 2003 05:28 PM

Hey Guys,
Thought I might run this one by you. My female Thai 13' 65lbs is up to some shady buisness. She had a touch of a resp infection for two weeks. I treated that with some Tylosin. Shes fine. Had a shed. Shes looking awesome. She wont stay still shes all over the place. Figured she was hungry. Ran a rabbit by here didnt want to eat. Figure she was looking for a good soak. SOaked her for an hour. Then i figured maybe she receptive to breeding put here in with my thai male. Nope she didn't want to do that either. She wont stop shes slamming into the glass tryimng to figure a way out of her spacious 6'x3' vison. Shes moving a mile a minute. If there was ever a case for reptilian ADD she be a perfect canidate. Never in my 8 years of keeping herps have I ever seen such a over active snake. Anyone have any more theories (besides reptoritilan lol),suggestion etc

Hey bro,
You sure that "she" is a "she"? That sounds like horny male behavior to me.

You may try to use a hide or somthing to see if she will calm down, inside of it. I have no ideal however why she would act that way, It is IMO usualy a behavior displayed by males. I would only guess she isnt happy with her accomidations. I had a male super tiger get a oral infection latly from the same behavior so be careful. Good luck -Shaun D

Breeding behavior in the form of "pacing" can be exhibited by both male and female Retics. So if this is in fact the root of what you are witnessing, it will pass on its own. But as suggested, you could try a hide or even new (larger) cage environment; as these changes can bring to an end the psychological cycle that causes the over activity.

You may also want to verify the gender of your snake, as it is more pronounced in males (by probing or even introducing it to a known female and observing the behavior).
