i have used seven dust in the distant past with good results. you have to use the 7percent stuff. i would put it in a sock and shake it on the snake out of the enclosure and dust the enclosure and let the dust settle before putting the snake back in. you really dont want the snake to inhale it in. wait a few days and wash everything up. it works pretty well. now when i need to i use pest strips. they work great. always use caution with whatever method you choose.

This Is How I Treat Mites
I clean the cage and everything in it with bleach water, and then I dry it out.
I put my Boas in a Rubbermaid tub and sprinkle Sevin dust 5% (NOT THE 10%!) on them. I let it set overnight, then I give my Boas a warm bath to
clean them off. I also put a light dusting of Sevin dust 5% in the cage and leave it in for about 1 or 2 weeks. Then I clean the cage one more time
with bleach water to get all the Sevin dust and DEAD MITES out.
During this two week period I also change the water daily.
This way the reptiles will have fresh, clean water to drink every day.
I know some people say Sevin dust is not safe for your Boas,
but I have had nothing but good luck with this.
I have had boas since 1979, and have not had any bad experiences from this.
I got this information from my veterinarian.
Take care,
Tom

I've used it in the past, but since provent a mite and black knight came around there is no reason to. These products work fast and well. When I did use sevin dust I clewaned out the cages and put a fine layer of it all over the bottom. Left out the water bowl and kept the snakes like that for 7 days. With black knight or provent a mite I just clean out the cage, spray the entire thing bedding and all and I leave the water bowl out for a day or so. Just make sure the cage is completely dry before you put the snakes in. You'll see little dead mites all over the floor of the cage the same day.
Black Knight is the only way to go. One squirt and mites and their eggs are gone forever.
Anytime I get a new snake I give it a squirt of Black Knight before even bringing it into my home. I have not seen a mite in several years. Sevens dust can not kill the mites and eggs that are in hiding though out your home. And no-pest-strips are dangerous to your boas. Black Knight is safe and works WAY better than any other product.
Because of the threat of IBD everyone who brings a new boa into their collection should first treat it with Black Knight and give it a long quarantine to be on the safe side.
Thank you for your responses. I just ordered Provent-A-Mite so I'll probably be using that since I've heard nothing but great things about it. But I will still use a little Sevin Dust. I will clean my cage out including rocks and water dish and then dust the bottom with the Sevin Dust. Leave it there for a week and then wash it out once more. This will be for my burmese that i acquired about a month ago now. My new suriname boa is in a different room so I'm hoping the mites won't find her. I will be using a little Sevin also around her cage just in case.
