Help--Confused Chameleon Keeps Trying to go UP!

SaveFerris Nov 01, 2003 06:40 PM

Every once in awhile (like now when im writing this) my female veiled will try to go UP as far as possible for some reason. She will go to different corners and climb on the screen as if shes trying to get further up. I thought at first shes trying to get closer to the light but shes going to all parts of the ceiling.

Is something bugging her? Is this telling me something about her cage? Should i cover the top (except for the light?

Heres the cage again
Its the same except for now theres 2inch boards holding the light farther away--and yes plants and vines.

Maybe she is just exploring You have her in their alone, right? Luna does that, too when she wants to come out and she now knows that it usually works! haha! But she is in a smaller cage - she'll be lost in the gigantic one I got her (if I ever find the time to set it up!).

What was she in before? Can she see another critter? My very inexpreienced guess is that she is adjusting. Would love to see pix with it all set up!

my nosy be cross use to do the same thing after i had put him back in his cage from being outside. what i did to stop him from climbing around the top looking to get out was placed a pothos over and to the side of his cage and i place him on that when i bring him back inside and he goes back into his cage when HE is ready. it has woked very well alot of the time i will open his cage and drape a couple vines over the door and let him come and go as he wants.

She's not confused, she just knows that higher is safer and closer to the basking light. Most chams tend to explore upwards. It's normal. If she really shows stress colors while doing this it could be she doesn't feel secure at the height of her cage. You could raise the cage up on a small table or chest to give it more height. I wouldn't worry too much.
