baby leopard food question

aphexxepha Nov 01, 2003 07:19 PM

I'm looking for reviews (good or bad) about Ectotherm's Grassland Tortoise Yummies. It's what I have been feeding my newly aquired baby leopard and he eats great. I'm just worried about it's nutritional value in regards to the development of my tortoise. The only info I've been able to find about this product is from the manufacturer. I want to make sure it is as great as it seems to be. Thank you.

There is a thread on this a little further down. I tried the Yummies out on my baby Hermann's, and he loves them, but to be honest, I think he loves them so much I would be worried about him refusing other foods. The ingredient list looks good, and I think they would be fine as a treat or a small part of the daily diet, but I wouldn't feed them exclusively. Also, they are pretty expensive to feed to an adult tortoise--I imagine an adult leopard could easily eat close to a bag or more a day.

I think you would be better off feeding a grass/hay/greens diet and using the Yummies sparingly, but that's JMO.

Thank you for the advise. I didn't think about him refusing other foods because the Yummies are so good. I do feed him grasses, but now I think I will vary his diet more with greens instead of feeding him exclusively Yummies. Also, thank you for directing me to that thread. I can't believe I missed it when I was looking for info on this subject.

I agree with what Sohni said. (She's pretty sharp) Use them only as a treat if you want to use them. Grow weeds to feed them as much as you can.

Thank you, what a nice thing to say! Of course, I'm no expert on torts, far from it, but I try to base my comments on the experience I do have, plus experience I have with other animals.

It is really easy to get an animal stuck on one kind of food, and not so easy to get them off of it, especially if you have a hard time with pleading looks, lol.
