I don't know what to do......msg

cozmo Nov 01, 2003 07:53 PM

when I came home tonight I found "hot-dog" (my husband was in charge of naming...big mistake) laying on the floor of her enclosure. She has apparently broken her left arm. I am beside myself right now, feeling very helpless. Oddly enough I put casts and splints on humans for a living. But never a dragon. I tried using some vet wrap as a swathe to immobilize her arm, but she is not liking it and not wanting to move. She was moving before, draging her arm with her.
There aren't any vets open in my area on a saturday night. I feel just sick about this whole thing. She wasn't a thriving little dragon to start with. Does anyone have any advice to get me through until I get her to the vet?? I was hesitant to post this afraid to upset people. I am just afraid I am going to lose this sweet little thing.

Hi! Sorry for your baby
Are you sure it is broken?
Can you tell if any bones are out of alignment or thru the skin OR perhaps is it a very bad soft tissue injury?
Is she putting any weight on it at all?
If it is soft tissue I wonder if a warm bath might help...in a way like a human would use heat to help a muscle injury?
If it is broken, an X-ray will tell, it will most likely need splinted & immobilized.
Maybe someone else has had experience with fractures & lizards.
Also be sure to check your set-up again, if she got out on her own, she may certainly do it again if given the chance!
Best of luck with her
Sharla
