What is the best time to feed my Sav. hatching?

Jose J. May 30, 2003 01:46 AM

Before I go to work or after work? I put about a dozen 3 weeks old cix. in monring. When i get home about 6 p.m. i feed the 6" hatching larger cix. They seem to like to tear the cix. apart before eating them. Then they go to bathroom and stop eating I was just wondering?

I feed my baby Sav mini Can O` Crickets around 11:00 or 12:00 in his food dich. He`ll eat about 4 of them, then stop. I just leave the crickets in there, and that way he can eat when he gets hungry again. I dust them twice a week with vitamins, and everyday with calcium. He was originally underweight, now he seems perfect. Maybe you should just continue what you are doing. If they seem to be gaining weight, and look healthy, then everythings good. Mine stops eating after three, or four crickets. But you can try your own things. See what works better for your Savs. Hope this helps.

There is no real set time as to when your monitor should be fed. I feed mine in the evening because that's when it's easiest for me to spend that much time. The only feeding schedule that I use is they get fed certain food items on a certain day. What your doing is fine. Savs don't care what time they get food just as long as they get it.
Sorry it's not a definative answer but this is what I know.
Thanks and Good luck,
Christine :>~

ALWAYS monitor your monitor lizards feeding, especially a hatchlings feeding period. You need to make sure it is feeing ok, and that the food does not eat the who is to be fed! Buy Bennett and Thakoordyal's book Savannah Monitors book...if your serious about your savannah monitor then you will no doubt enjoy this very readable 83 page book too!
Good luck,
