TURTLE ISNT GROWING!

gottaturtle Nov 01, 2003 10:16 PM

Hi. My turtle is almost 2 years old now, but still only about 4-5 inches in length. I have it in a 10 gallon tank, have both necassary lights, filter, water heater and basking area. I am feeding it Reptomin, and there are 2 feeder fish living with it. It also appears as if it is shedding. It looks like scales are coming off of its shell. Thanks for you help.

....i would say you need, at least, a 60 gallon tank for a turtle that size...

You do need a bigger enclosure for him.

In reality, your turtle is probably TOO big for his age.
Mine are 4 years old and about this size. Turtles are not
suppose to grow quickly. It can cause health problems down
the road. Mine are even a little overweight. Start giving
some fresh greens and such and don't try to rush it

Hope this helps
Linda

Thanks for your help. But she simply refuses to eat any type of vegetables. Do you have any idea how I could get her start liking them?

Buy some aquatic plants at petsmart and don't and cut back on feeding your turtle as much, then you shlould start seeing your plants disapear. Also tank size is important but they will keep growing even if in a small enclosure, usually its only fish that are affected by their tank size growth wise. I agree with the the previous post though, a large enclosure is how you keep your turtles healthy, 1 RES= 75 Gal, 2 RES= 100 gal.
