What's with the sandboxes???....

-ryan- Nov 01, 2003 11:00 PM

I noticed while looking through the posts here (it's been a while since I've been around), some people have carpet as a floor covering, but then have a sandbox for the dragons to play in. Why not just have it completely sand then? The only reason I don't use sand is impaction, is there something I'm missing here?

This is really wierd because last time I was on here everyone was talking about using bran and everything, and now you don't see the bran topic every 20 posts as was usual before. Also, before I never saw anyone that had their beardies potty trained to go on a paper towel. I wonder if this will work for me, as right now sid is on paper towels (for steril reasons) and I am going to switch him back to carpet once we figure out if he is rid of his parasites or not. Then again, my beardie is kind of wierd and likes to save his poo up usually at least a week. We haven't determined yet if this is just him, of if there is something wrong with him. The vet didn't detect any impactions, so they are testing his blood to see if there is anything wrong. Hopefully there isn't. He also hasn't been eating, so we're hoping that he's just trying to brumate early, even though now he's somewhat active and basking again.

I'm so confused. I guess I sort of derailed this post.

the reason i use a sandbox versus a cage completly covered in sand is for sanitary purposes. even after you clean up the poo all sorts of icky stuff is left behind and it easier for the beardie to get sick... after seeing how cool cheri's sandboxes looked and how much her beardies liked them i decided to make one for spike.. he loves it..he digs around in it day and night and sits on the ramp during the day...and when i had vinyl in the cage i had him trained to poo on paper towel..but since i moved him i don't have a new piece of vinyl to cut so he is on paper towels... and when he isn't burmating he likes to make sure he gets his cage nice and messy..throwing sand everywhere.. digging in his pellet dish..tiping over his logs.. he has been a pain in my side for weeks..but it all worth it
