Desperate for help- Update.....

Heather Nov 02, 2003 06:00 AM

Well, He made it through the night with flying colors! I checked on Him first thing and when I opened His house, he took off across the bin! He actually ran! Then He was struting around some more. The one eye is still open. Haven't lifted Him up to check the closed eye. Gonna give him some more Gatorade but I'm gonna mix a litttle vitamins power into it. See what happens. Also dropped another wax worm in there. don't see the first one but that doesn't mean it's not there. Have tore his house apart to look for it. Trying to minimize the stress on him. Anything else I can do???

We were feeding the rest of the clan and I took him out to see if I could find the wax worm I dropped in last night. I only found one out of two worms!!! So I put him down in his hous and moved the worm right in front of him. HE POUNCED ON IT AND ATE IT!!!!!!!! HE'S EATTING!!!! And Even Better!!! BOTH EYES ARE OPEN!!!!!! Yes! The Other Eye OPENED!!!!! I'm so excited!!!!!

congrats i'm glad he ate make sure he doesn't get addicted to those wax worms though or else he won't eat anything else~ waxies being addicting & all~ also, when you opened his house... do you mean the top of the cage? or his hide? because if you open his hide while he's in there, it can cause an added stress, which is probably why he darted across the cage coz he thought you were going to attack him it's a good thing he didn't drop his tail! but i'm glad he ate and i hope he improves on his eating habits take care heatheR!

Hi Heather

I just read your post and I almost jumped out of my chair with excitement for you. I'am sitting here with the biggest grin on my face.

I knew that he would make it through the night for you!!!!. You and he now have a very special connection to each other. He knows that you won't give up on him and I really can't see him giving up on you.

I think that you are only going to go up hill together from here. Keep us posted.

WoW!!, just look at the improvement a day and a night had on him.

Take Care, TLB

Glad to here he's eating! The fact that he's eating on his own and that the other eye opened up are really good signs. I'd recommend introducing crickets or freshly molted mealworms (the other ones will probably be too tough for him to handle until he's regained his strength) in addition to the waxies. Removing the hoppers and antennae on crickets will often make them more palatable btw. I had a male in a similar state (much larger than your guy) so I fed him pinkis to fatten him up. They worked great but it took me over 3 months to switch him back over to crickets and mealworms. Try to get him to eat a varied diet so that he doesn't develop an addiction. In any case, he's very lucky to have found such a devoted keeper!
