Hello,
Does anyone in the U.S. keep and breed this subspecies? I would like to avoid getting them from Europe. Any info on where to find these would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
T.C. Houston

Hi there,
I guess nobody replied your post becuase most people don't know the answer to your question. I can't really help you out either, but can tell you there are very very few, if any, Jacksonii jacksonii in the united states. I myself have tried pretty hard to search for some about close to a year ago, and only found one person who actually has a Jacksonni jacksonni female, but wishes not to sell it. That particular specimen came in as a jacksonii merumontanus. they were banned from exportation about a couple of years ago, and Most that enter the united states are wrongly labelled as J. jacksonii. There are some people advertising j.jacksonii on classified ads, and would attest strongly that they are j.jakconni, but i dare say 99 percent of the time they can't tell JAcksonii xantholophus from jacksonii jacksonii. So don't be fooled by these ads and people claiming to sell them.
Your best bet is to ask any importer to look out for wrongly labelled j.jacksonii, and get it from them. I'd suspect they would probabaly charge quite a bit for it, since they know how rare it is. Believe me, i tried pretty hard to get some in the past, and even tried to get importers to look out for wrongly labelled specimens, but ultimately didin't materialize, and i gave up and bought some merumontanus instead. Do tell me if you happen to stumble upon any!
i mean they were wrongly labelled as "jacksonii merumontanus"
Thanks for the reply. I have got in contact with a guy in Europe who sent about 30 to the U.S. about 3 years ago. He is willing to export them with CITES permits for large price tag. The only thing is that the quantity is not what costs. So if I could get a group of people together and buy a group of 10-20 total it would be around $200 ea. animal.
Let me know if you are interested in working on this.
Thanks again,
T.C.
I would certainly be interested~! drop me a line on email with the details!

Be very careful about this. I believe I know who you are refering to and I was on the other end of part of the shipment he sent. If it is who I'm thinking of, we received Ch. hoehnelii (this is what I got), Ch. ellioti and Ch. j. jacksonii (willigensis). This was prior to Uganda exporting so they were the first ellioti and hoehnelii in the US in many years. They were supposed to be young CB animals but what we got were WC (probably smuggled) animals in terrible conditions. Some had 3 legs, all had terrible scaring and the vets that treated our animals had never seen lung worm infestations like what was found after most of the shipment passed away over a fairly short time. I won't give the guys name publicly but please email me privately (parsonii_hoehnelii@hotmail.com) and I will give his name to you so you are aware of the risk if it is the same person.
Regards,
Chris
