Has eaten more today

Twiglet Nov 02, 2003 09:26 AM

I've had my Marmite ( male 6 month old uro) a week now and every day I've only seen him eat a little he was seen by a good reptile vet before I got him and all we could think is he has been stressed and is taking a while to settle !!
He has poo'd every day and runs about and digs well and his colours are showing great . So no obvious signs of illness ?!?!?!?

Well today I'm smiling

This morning I gave Marmite a new bowl , not his normal china one but a plastic one in the shape of a rock , well he ran straight over to it , licked some drops of water off his greens and then started to eat
Only a little but still a good start I think

I so hope we have now made a breakthrough

Sometimes they take a long time to acclimate!!!!
One thing you said made me wonder if your uro is a little dehydrated.
You may , if you haven't already, soak it in warm water.
I had a egyptian drink like it was going out of style once and she really bounced back after that.
Also make sure the pieces are real small for it, sometimes they won't eat a large piece but will consume many small pieces.
Good luck,
Ed

Thanks for your advice , great photo
I am making sure all his food is small bits !!

Is it ok to let him soak then ? What about his tail ?
( will it be ok just this once ?)

Any time I do a soak, I give them a careful blow dry to be sure they're thoroughly dry (especially the tail) before returning to the tank. They seem to like it!

As stated above, make sure the tail is very dry prior to putting your uro back into the enclosure. I've always just dried them off real well with a paper towel aing sure to dry all the swirls...

I wish you success.
