How do I...

punker055 Feb 08, 2003 06:09 PM

Don't get all up in arms or pissed at me, but how do I kill my gecko? He has been sick for about a month, today he is so weak he won't move. If I stand him up he just colapses. If you close his eyes, he is to weak to open them. I just want to put him out of his misery so he won't suffer any more. Is there any non-gross way to do so or should I just let his life drag on pointlessly?

I have heard that one of the easiest ways to do this is to put it in the freezer. i have never done this and i would make sure that there is no hope at all for it. i dont know if this is the most humane way to do it but it is what i heard to do if you have a dying gecko. Sorry in advance for your loss. i am sure you tried everything you could.

I know...I spent like 40 bucks on different medical things for him about a week ago and nothing worked, not even the infamous hydrolife. All he did was keep losing weight. The breeder who sold him to me had to have known because both geckos that he sold to me did the exact same thing...I am rather mad. Thanks, He will be going in the freezer tonight I suppose....

I'd sit down and have a chat with the breeder you got it from. Somebody isn't doing something right if its happened to a few leos. Whats your setup like? substrate/temps/food/size whatever??

Substrate in beginnging was washed play sand then I switched to paper towels because I read somewhere that sick leos should be put on towels. Both temps were in the 80's. The female that died didn't eat the whole time I had her and the male in the beginning ate mealies and crickets but after a week he stopped eating entirely also. Size of tanks at first were both 10 gallons then I moved to sweater box because I figured they may have a problem catching food so I put them in a smaller sized container.

did you have them all checked for parasites? I'd seriously go back to the source and see if the breeder has been having any problems

I am sure the breeder knew something was wrong with them. It never occured to me that someone would sell a blizzard and a het for bliz for a pictus and 70 bucks if something wasn't wrong with them. I don't have any vets in the area that would do anything about it. None know about reptiles. I gave them something that takes care of mites or some other disease kind of thing but it didn't do any good.
