Will's Ringnecks

HerpHelmz Nov 02, 2003 02:15 PM

Will,
You said they were hatchlings and you could tell that because their scales were still waxy? Are you sure? Ringneck Snakes do have smooth scales. What color is your albino? Mine was all white with a yellow ring and a yellow belly. Where you live is it still hot enough for you to find worms? The worms can be up to 3/4's of the snakes body and it will still eat it if it sees it moving. How big is the tank you have them in? You should have a 10 gallon aquarium with soil and leaves mixed to cover the bottom, have a heat rock on one side of the tank(or heat pad under 1/4 of it) that will be your hot area, the snakes will go there to get warmed up or to digest food. On the other side have a waterbowl dug into the ground, and a bunch of flat rocks. I think you should wait till the snakes come out and then try to feed them, just drop a worm in eye sight range and if its hungry it will eat. If you feel that you cannot take care of them properly I will gladly take them off your hands and pay for shipping, etc.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your reply and e-mail. It appears as though both ringnecks have fed on worms. They seem to be doing well. When I first received them they had the typical dull waxy skin of a snake that has just hatched from an egg. They clouded up and shed within days. I'll try to post pictures this weekend. Thanks again.

Are you aware of how much they eat? My female Ringneck Snake usually eats 4 worms a week or more. They can and will eat alot if they are around. You might want to watch them while they eat, they might fight over it and end up with one snake. Do they have plenty of hiding spots, what are you using as substrate?
