Glass aquariums Help please jsut a bit annoyed

BeardedDragon357 Nov 02, 2003 03:21 PM

Hi,
I have been looking for a new cage for my beardie Levi. I have a reptarium the screen cages and i absolutely hate it i can't get enough light in and also can't keep the heat in so now i am looking for a different cage. i didn't find a manufactured cage like vision etc.. to be what i wanted. so i am going with a aquarium but now you can't just buy an aquarium you have to buy the filter the everything else deal used for fish which triples the price. I hvae been to every sight imaginable looking for just aquariums and have been on ebay but they all want an arm and a leg for them. The only place i haven't been in petsmart and i am planning on asking my mom to take me cause i am just too tired of looking an the net. If any body knows where i could get like a 50-60 gallon aquarium for a decent price let me know please! or if anybody lives within an hour of jacksonville Florida that has a tank please let me know also

Thanx
Tyler

I think your best bet really would be a brick and morter store. It's difficult to buy tanks on the net for two reasons. They're heavy (a 40 gallon glass tank weighs like 50 pounds) and they HUGE. I'm sure they qualify as oversized for UPS, so shipping gets pretty expensive. You said everywhere you looked you had to buy a filter etc... Find the one you want for the best deal and ask them if you can get it without the additional equipment. I'd imagine some of them would be willing to do that.

minus all that stuff..........

reptile show are another great place, lots of tanks at great prices.

i agree I hate the reptariums except for sunning for brief times.

delilah spent l week in one on vacation and had a nasty snout rub that took months to get back to normal.

try the yellow pages.......

Just go to a local pet store. All the aquariums I've found on the internet are either really small, or acrylic (all the larger ones on petco or petsmart or whatever are acrylic). You don't want acrylic for a beardie, they'll scratch it all up. Just find whatever pet stores are near you, and call them and ask if they have the tank. Try to go for a 75 gallon. It gives you much more space than a 40 gallon breeder, and it's not much more expensive, I'm kicking myself in the ass for not getting the 75 or 90 gallon (both have the same floor space, but the 75 is 20" tall and the 90 is 24". I'm trying to get one to replace my 40 gallon which is very hard to decorate without taking up too much space.

...the Pecan Park Flea Market on the northside of Jacksonville. There's a "pet" vendor there with animals of very poor quality but he usually has supplies including tanks. There certainly as cheaper than retail.
Good Luck!

Of course not....the temptation to rescue all his critters, three-legged squirels, one-eyed raccoons & skinny geckos is GREAT but specifically he was asking about cheap aquarium tanks in Jacksonville....that's who came to mind if a good price is the issue!

I bought my 40 gallon breeder recently from a local pet store. It was specifically for reptiles & small animals (Critter Keeper). I paid about $110 for mine and it came with a locking sliding screened top.

Check your phonebook for aquarium supplies. I found a local guy who sold fish and glass aquariums out of his basement. He sold both kits (acquarium, stand, hood etc) or separately. I was able to get a 35 Gal long tank for about $50 CDN. Walmart also sells plain tanks though these tend to be larger and come with a stand but are quite nice. Local petstore or fish supply stores may have used tanks with cracked seals you could get really cheap.

Also, classified ads may bring out somebody selling a large tank, maybe with or without assessories for real cheap.

Or, you can design and build your own with wood and plexi-glass (don't find my dragon scratches it at all but then again, my tank is quite large for one dragon).
