I've got my snakes tank in my room....I've got a heat lamp which is extremely bright. When i turn my lights out to go to sleep, i have to turn out the heat lamp on top. I'm afraid he will get too cold at night. Is a bottom heating pad (the one that sticks on the bottom of the aquarium) enough for him? or do i need to buy one of those lights that aren't bright, but heat the tank?

YOU KNOW the desired temperature range for a Ball Python. Its well-documented and its everywhere. So what YOU need to do is to calibrate the temperatures in YOUR setup. No one can tell you what its going to be. That would be impossible. You know the temperature range, so do the things you need to do to get there. Its that simple.

What are your temperature readings on both sides? Do you have thermometers and a hygrometer set up? If not you really should get some so that you know exactly what the readings are. You really can't guess. And it will put your mind at ease and answer your question so that you know if you need to do anything.

I just went out and bought a hygrometer and a thermometer. only one of each. i also bought a spray bottle...and damn it made a difference. before spraying inside the tank, the hygrometer was reading below 50...now it's reading almost 70. the thermometer (closer toward the heated side) is reading just above 90 F

I know what else i need to do. thanks for all the help.

Good going. I'd also get a thermometer for the cool side.
Best of luck!
