I like the way this guy got holes in the pots. what is a good way to do it like this without taking a hammer to it and shattering it?

lol. i need to find someone with one.
Using a hammer isn't a bad way to do it. It's what I do. Take the terra cotta pot bottom (they like the low round tight fit of these) and put it over a soft pillow or chair arm or something with some give to it. Tap it lightly from the inside until it breaks out a suffucuent piece. Use sandpaper to shave off some rough edges and there you go- the perfect ball hiding place. These can also help with your humidity problem because they can soak up a lot of water. You can gie your snake one dry and one damp one.
Get a masonry blade for your jig saw. You can cut nice round circles or arcs with it.

I use heavy plastic water bowls like for dogs. Wal-Mart has them in the pet section. I use a hole drill like the ones used for drilling holes in doors for door knobs. Use 3/4" to 1" size. Goes right through the plastic. I put a hole in the top and side. The bowls come in different sizes so if you have a small ball, then use a smaller bowl. You can graduate up as the snake gets bigger. If you look in that picture you will see a light grey bowl in the back being used for a water bowl. That's the same type of bowl I use for hides and water bowl, too.
