I have a Question...

BrianD Nov 02, 2003 06:13 PM

I am a regular on the Carpet/Diamond Python forum and when I post a picture or just a story people respond with "nice snake" or "neat pic". Now in return I try to post as many replies as I can especially to the new posters. Now why is it that in this forum it seems that there is this small "click" or group that just keep posting and patting eachother on the back. You can say thay it's because I don't reply to posts here, but guess what I don't know enough about Boas to offer information a lot of the time. Why is this you ask? Because no one ever includes me in this forum. I posted a pic of my two Hypo Boa's and no one here can even say "nice", come on. Hell if Linda or CE or bah posted a picture of a wall you all would say "cool wall". I just wanted to know what kind of lights you guys take your pictures under and no one would offer any ideas. I learned almost all of my knowledge on pythons though interaction on the forum. It just seems that there is no room for any new comers here. Maybe I need a VIP pass or something. Is there a more "Friendly" boa forum somewhere? Please by all means don't feel a need to reply to this either.

IMO most "newbies" here are put in one of two catagories the you dont need to own the snake if you ask that question or just nothing is added to your question good or bad.I know it is VERY frustrating to the new commers here and to be honest its aggrivating to me as some one who posts once in a while and is usally a "read only" participant . the clique does seem to have its own memebers that only reply to there peers or back pat each other.Im not saying its bad for them or degrading them for that but i think its that they are to involved in there own stuff to read the posts that dont interest them.

IMO i would say that the "oldtimers here" should take a little more interest in people that ask the " stupid" questions need just as much attn. to there questions if not more then the time back patting the ones with the time under there belt.As it will be those that will be a future buyer from some of those people .

we should treat all questions as if there the holder of a new morph with vigor and responsibility as if there a customer

I commend you good sir, I am very upset with this forum, I am a new boa owner only trying to gain knowledge from the experienced of others and feel as if I am a nuisance to those. I thought at first that this was Godsend only to discover that if you dont know already than your are mearly a nuisance to the most important task of showing your new animal! I wish that the progression of this hobby was enough to spur folks into helping their fellow man instead of boasting and ranting on their own personal gains. Oh well humans will forever be what they are, from the dawn of evolution to the glimmer of apoclypse.

I use natural sunlight. In the summer I try to take my pics outside on a overcast day. Now that it is fall, I just take them by a window that has sunlight shining through. Here is one of the latter:

I have had the same problem on most of the forums here. If you aren't a big-name breeder or you aren't known by lots of people in the forum, you're typically shoved into the newbie filter and ignored. Lately, I've gotten a few more comments, which has been nice, and very much appreciated.

As for having questions answered, its not that hard for others on the forum to answer them. Those who answer with "why do you even own a snake" or similar are very rude and ignorant. (Unless they are answering a question such as "Can I smoke pot around my snake? and then that person posting the question is, indeed, an idiot.)

I try to answer people's questions if possible, I'm not a big-time breeder, but I bet I've owned herps for a hell of a lot longer than many people my age on here, and I'm more than willing to share information if it has worked for me-anything to help someone else.

All I can suggest is to keep posting your question or photos. Thats how I finally got answers and comments.

(However, the only one with the answer for my big question still has yet to answer it on the differences between Tarahumara BCI and Sonoran/Mexican BCI (other than location found). Quite irritating and although I bet it is not the case, coming from a scientists' point of view, it is highly doubtful of the difference unless scientific proof (photos, documentation) is shown to prove these differences.)

Not trying to insult anyone. Just a case in point. Its not that hard to type out positive remarks about someone's photos or answer a relatively simple question (bigger ones take more time!.)

The boa forum is not what it used to be since the change to the new forum it has been slow for the dial up users. When I moved I could not get high speed internet so it would take along time to look at pictures so I almost stopped using the forum and would only look at the post from people I know or people that I knew had something good to say or post. Now I have high speed again and I look at almost everything posted on here and only comment when I have some info to give or when I see incredible picture's of the boas that intrest me the most. I have also posted tons of pictures and questions that have gone unanswered even though I have posted some good pictures they are not the quality of some others incredible animals that can be seen here. The people that post the pictures and get all the good comments have been using this forum for along time and many of the comments they get are from friends or people they have done business with, it's not that there is a VIP section to this forum it just these people have been here for awhile and tend to get allot of attention when they post. Almost every single "popular" person on this forum has given me advice and information when I have asked and I'm happy they did so in return I show them some respect even if I did not like what they had to say (who likes to be told they are doing something wrong?) Sometime it is easier to reply to an email than reply to a post so if you have a question for a forum user try to use the contact link in one of there post and I'm sure you will get you answer. Please dont take anything I have said here the wrong way because I'm not trying to piss anyone off. Later

That's what you get for buying snakes that don't lay eggs.
