The state of tennessee prohibited possesion of crocodilians, excepting caiman....Does this mean you can not keep alligators? Without special permits yes. TWRA permit requirements are pretty tough, requiring 3 acres minimum, a double locked facility..meaning the enclosure has to be locked inside a locked facility, a loaded shotgun needs be on premises in case of "escapes", there is a minimum insurance requirement and the fee is $1,000 anually for a special license for possesion of crocodilians other than caiman. Most frustrating of all is that many of the regulations are ill-defined and left to interpretation by the agency...and they can be, well...non-receptive to the idea of anyone having crocodilians in their state...hope this helps....
