I understand where you are coming from and I agree that we as her keepers need to do all that we can to minimize the law makers in regards to reptiles, I do not necesaarliy think that making laws on big cats and other large exotics is a bad thing. So many people with $2,000 in there pockets think it would be a cool thing to own a tiger. That is all it takes in some states and that is wrong. There needs to be regulations in regards to some animals. They wildlife regulators need to ensure that the owners of such animals can care for them and house them properly and humanely. So as far as the regs against big cats I completely agree with them. As far as reptiles I think that starting a liscensing concept for snake owners wouldn't be a terrible thing. VIP has a very interesting article about experience on their website talking about snake years. I think that is a very viable way to help control the abuse and neglect of the snakes we keep. Anyway just my opinion, Todd
This is just one more step in taking away the rights of the herp community. Life, liberty and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS is one of the mottos that this country was founded on. The pursuit of happiness for many of us includes the right to be able to keep and breed a variety of exotic animals. I feel that it should be a RIGHT to keep ANY species of animal that we choose as long as it is done in a responsible, safe and humane manner. And as long as it is done in a conservation friendly manner. I agree that there should be a strict permit system in place to discourage the rifraf from keeping animals that are potentially dangerous or that require advanced care. I also believe that one should be able to get a permit for ANY animal that one wants as long as he/she is knowledgable about said species and meets the strict guidelines set forth. Unfortunately we live in a society where the powers that be want to sterilize every aspect of life for us.
